AMS Greenlight Laser

The AMS Greenlight Laser is used as a treatment option for BPH. It is done on an outpatient basis and the recovery time is fairly short.

GreenLightTM Laser Therapy is a procedure performed with a small fiber that is inserted into the urethra through a cytoscope. The fiber delivers high-powered laser light. Blood inside the enlarged prostate tissue instantly absorbs the laser light, heating the tissue and causing it to vaporize. This process is continued until all of the enlarged prostate tissue has been removed.

Permanent prostate brachytherapy, also known as radiation seed implant, involves the insertion of radioactive seeds into the prostate with the intention of destroying the cancerous cells in place. These seeds are very small, actually smaller than a grain of rice.

Brachytherapy is a two step process that is done on an outpatient basis at the hospital. The first step is to determine the size of the prostate by performing a transrectal ultrasound. During the ultrasound, information is taken and sent to a computer to create a three dimensional model. The doctor uses this information to determine the number of seeds and their placement to best meet the needs of each patient.

The second step involved the physician inserted the seeds into the prostate through the perineum, the space between the testicles and the anus, using needless or applicators guided by ultrasound. After the procedure, xrays are taken to verify the quality and the location of the seed placement.

Provenge is a treatment option for me with asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer. It is an autologous cellular immunotherapy that uses your own cells to build a treatment that helps the immune system fight disease.

Your immune system is made up of immune cells in your blood. These cells are your body’s natural defense systems against illness, including prostate cancer.

Provenge is made from your own immune cells that have been activated with a recombinant antigen to seek and attack prostate cancer cells. By stimulating your body’s natural immune cells, Provenge may help add years to your life.

Cooled Thermotherapy

Cooled Thermotherapy is a procedure done in the physicians office. A small flexible catheter is inserted into the urethra. This catheter contains channels for circulating cooled fliud around an antenna that produces targeted heat within the prostate. The heat precisely targets the enlarged prostate causing destruction of the unwanted tissue. By eliminating the prostate tissue that is compressing the urethra, urine flow is restored and the patient receives long-lasting relief from BPH symptoms.
